Child and Family Counseling:

Supporting Children and Families

Katee Rook, LSW

Katee enjoys working with children, teens, and families as they navigate the ups and downs that come with growing, changing, and facing life’s challenges. She supports clients experiencing anxiety, depression, difficulties with emotional regulation, behavioral concerns, life transitions, trauma, and social or family stressors. Her goal is to help children and adolescents better understand themselves, build healthy coping skills, develop resilience, and feel more confident in their ability to handle challenges as they arise.

Katee believes that children and teens do best when they feel supported not only individually, but within the relationships and environments that are important to them. Because of this, she values partnering with parents and caregivers throughout the therapy process. She takes a systems-based approach, recognizing the important roles that family relationships, school experiences, friendships, and other life experiences play in a child’s wellbeing and development. Together, she works with families to strengthen communication, build connection, and develop practical strategies that support growth at home, at school, and in everyday life.

Her work is grounded in evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and positive behavioral interventions, while always tailoring treatment to the unique needs and strengths of each child, teen, and family.

When working with children, Katee uses developmentally appropriate and engaging approaches that often include play, creativity, and strengths-based activities. She helps children learn to express emotions, make sense of their experiences, build social-emotional skills, and develop healthy ways to cope and communicate.

With adolescents, Katee creates a supportive and collaborative space where teens can explore their identity, relationships, emotions, and goals while building skills in communication, emotional regulation, problem-solving, and self-advocacy. She understands that adolescence can bring unique challenges for both teens and their families and enjoys working alongside them to foster greater understanding, connection, and confidence during this important stage of life.

Katee strives to create a space where children, teens, and families feel comfortable, heard, and understood, and where they can work together toward meaningful and lasting change.
